 LANDSCAPE INTERPRETATION & GARDEN DESIGN USING PERMACULTURE PRINCIPLES

WORKSHOP DETAILS

This will be a theoretical and practical workshop, to give you the necessary knowledge to start your garden or to improvise your methods following a more holistic way. The topics which we are going to cover will be: the ethics and basic principles of Permaculture; living soil; composting; design and conception of a garden; garden beds and plots; planting out seedlings; sowing and placing a mulch covering.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

* How to read a landscape to best complement existing formations.

* The basic concepts of Permaculture.

* Understanding soil as a living collective and phenomenon.

* The Art of Composting

* Protection of beds with mulching techniques.

* Successful seed planting and handling.

* Design principles for vegetable and garden layout.

PERMACULTURE

Aims to plan sustainable human habitats. It is a philosophy and an approach of soil use that integrates/aligns climate, plants, animals, cycles of nutrients, soil, water management and human necessities in productive and efficient communities.                                                Rob Hopkins

ABOUT SERGIO MOREIRA

Forest Training (Professional Level IV). Initial professional post was as head of the Forest Inventory Brigade in 1998 in a Agro-Forest Association. Continuing in this course in as a agro-forest business consultant from 1999 - 2004, hIS first duty was field data generation and analysis. In 2007 and 2008 he collaborated with the Municipal Council of Alcanena, as mobile chief of brigade in the prevention and combate of forest fires.

 

The route to Permaculture began in 2010 with Sepp Holzer. In 2011, he received training from Ernst Gotsch and in 2012 he undertook a Permaculture Design Course (PDC) with Lesley Martin. In the same year of beginning this training, he was invited by a primary school to present Permaculture to the third year pupils. This experience awoke a passion to share the knowledge with adults also. Since then, he has applied his knowledge as a consultant and in this way has successfully completed regenerative projects following Permaculture principles.

Cost for joining Sergios's workshop is 20 euros. Please bring your own vegetarian lunch.

The Tree planting day on Sun 3rd is a volunteering day with 100% vegetarian lunch provided.
